No Wall in the way of Lindsey as the triathlete soars

THERE are no barriers on how high up the ranks Lindsey Wall can climb as he looks to continue his breakthrough 2015 season.

The Yamba triathlete was named Jetts Fitness Senior Sportsperson of the Month in March after notching his third professional win of the year. So far the 25-year-old has conquered Goondiwindi's Hell of the West (Feb 1), the Coffs Tri (Mar 8) in record time and the Tweed Coast Enduro (Mar 29).

Now, after a short break from competitive racing, he is set for his toughest assignment yet - the Cairns Ironman 70.3 this Sunday.

"I've been training pretty well, focusing on Cairns and everything's on track," Wall said.

"I've never done the Cairns race but I know it's always a really strong field and will be a big test.

"It attracts the big names. There's ex-Olympians and guys who have placed in World Championships. Probably three or four who would rank up in the top 20 in the world.

"There's some hot competition for sure and all-up about 25 pro males there. It will be really hard to get on the podium but I will see what I can do. I'm sort of expecting top 10 but will be really happy with top five."

Wall, whose secret weapon is his run leg, expects adapting to tropical conditions will be his biggest test.

"It'll be new to me," he said. "The humidity and heat will be in interesting. Hopefully my body can adapt from the last few months, which I reckon have been colder than normal."

Wall flies out of the Valley this morning.
