Tourists who stashed drugs in shoes spent weekend in jail
TWO Taiwanese tourists accused of stashing methamphetamine in their shoes in a failed attempt to get past custom officials at Sydney's International Airport spent their first weekend in Australia behind bars.
Acting on a tip-off, border protection officers stopped the two men as they stepped off a flight from Hong Kong on Saturday.
A frisk search allegedly revealed the men had concealed about 1.5kgs of the drug, known as ice, in their shoes.
Both were handed over to Australian Federal Police officers.
Investigations are continuing but penalties for importing ice can include a fine of up to $550,000 and/or 25 years jail.
