Thanks to public co-operation, police have now obtained an identical replica of the charred towel found near the Cedar Pocket crime scene.
Thanks to public co-operation, police have now obtained an identical replica of the charred towel found near the Cedar Pocket crime scene.

IN A potentially major development yesterday, police said a Tin Can Bay man had provided them with a towel the same as the charred one found near a headless corpse dumped beside Cedar Pocket Rd.

Regional investigation chief Bruce McNab said police were considering releasing a picture of both towels in the hope it would prompt even more information and help from the public.

The detective inspector said the new lead had opened up several lines of inquiry and police were delighted with the flow of useful information from the public. "We've also heard from several people who were worried about people they had not seen for some time.

"People have contacted us saying they have friends or family who they have not heard from for some time.

"They might not have been worried about them, but they asked us to check.

"We've been able to account for all those people, fortunately," he said.

The photograph of the charred towel was released by police as part of their checks to try to identify the headless and mutilated torso, found burning only about 2m from the bitumen at Cedar Pocket last month.
