First flight to Cairns soars out of Wellcamp Airport
THE first set of direct flights out of Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport, destined for Melbourne and Cairns, have set travellers into a buying frenzy.
Toowoomba travellers destined for a business or leisure trip to the north will take off today at 9.15am on the back of Monday's Melbourne departure.
The success of yesterday's Melbourne flights and today's Cairns trip has been confirmed in strong ongoing sales through Airnorth.
Airnorth CEO Daniel Bowden said ticket sales were already in the thousands for the flights leaving Wellcamp.
Discounted flights were made available for Darling Downs residents.
Airnorth's flight TL130 to Melbourne was given a traditional water cannon salute welcome when the Embraer E170 jet arrived at Melbourne Airport.
The same type of plane takes passengers to Cairns.
The new services include seven weekly return flights from Toowoomba to Melbourne and three weekly return flights from Toowoomba to Cairns.
Flights now leave the Wellcamp airport destined to Melbourne, Sydney and Cairns.
The first Airnorth plane touched down at the airport on Friday ahead of the first services.
