Travellers warned on attacks

A NEW travel warning has been issued for Australians travelling to Indonesia following the killing of three suspected terrorists by police during a raid near Jakarta.

The suspects, who had allegedly been planning an attack for Christmas or New Year's Eve, were shot dead after opening fire on officers, police said.

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is urging travellers to exercise a "high degree of caution” when in the country.

"Indonesian authorities continue to arrest terrorists who have allegedly been in the advanced stages of attack planning. The terrorist threat level in Indonesia remains high,” a DFAT statement read.

"Terrorist attacks could occur anywhere at any time in Indonesia, including Bali. Be particularly vigilant during the Christmas and New Year period as gatherings of Westerners could be targeted.”
