Triathlon was a late starter

THE Bendigo Bank Easter Triathlon was held on Sunday much to the relief of members from the Red Rock-Corindi SLSC.

It was a nail-biting week leading up to the event with final approval occurring only late on Thursday afternoon.

Last year saw both the Easter and October events cancelled due to weather conditions,

however the sun was shining and competitors, along with club members, were smiling this time around.

Although the bike leg was shortened due to unsafe road conditions the only complaint on the day was the headwind encountered by bike riders.

Overall female champion in an amazing time of 47 minutes and 56 seconds was Melissa Bulloch, from Emerald Beach.

Overall male champion was Greg Jarman, also from Emerald Beach, in a blistering time of 44 minutes and 23 seconds.

Unfortunately future triathlons are in doubt and organisers will be assessing the viability of holding the Easter and October long weekend events.

Both are major fundraising activities for the small Red Rock-Corindi SLSC and money raised is heavily relied upon to support the ongoing expenses involved with keeping the waterways of Red Rock safe.
