Tributes flow for former Warwick detective Rod Kemp

QUEENSLANDERS have flooded social media to pay tribute to a former Warwick detective who died suddenly on the way to his own retirement lunch.

Detective Inspector Rod Kemp died from a suspected heart attack while returning to Mt Gravatt police station on Friday, the Courier-Mail reported.

Insp Kemp, who was to turn 57 on Thursday, was a highly respected investigator and led some of the state's biggest murder investigations.

The married father of three adult children, one of them also a police officer, was due to retire after 37 years as a police officer.

Insp Kemp worked as a detective in Brisbane, ran the Warwick criminal investigation branch, and spent time in the Homicide Squad and the Ethical Standards Command.

He ran the investigation into the murder of French student Sophie Collombet in Brisbane.

The hard working crime investigator was well known for his compassion for people.

Sonia Anderson wrote on Facebook she was shocked by the sudden death of Insp Kemp.

"Like everyone, I'm still in shock. Kempy led the investigation into the murder of my daughter, Bianca Faith Girven. He was exceptionally caring, warm, the truest gentleman. My heart aches for his family and colleagues."

Ali Stewart wrote: Hang up you boots & badge now mate , you served the people well. Come stroll the paths of heaven, for you walked the streets in hell.

Treena Timms was also shocked.

"No way this man was such a top bloke. No words can describe what they must be going through. I will miss you and your wife's hello when walking. RIP Rod."

Sheridan Deede said Insp Kemp was a gentleman and a friend to all his colleagues.

"He always had a smile on his face and a kind word followed by some fabulously dry humour. RIP Rod and thank you for your guidance when I worked with you in Warwick."

Concetto Lo Giudice also paid tribute. "So sad to hear about the loss of a great gentleman, remembering him when in service in Warwick, R.I.P Inspector Rod Kepp , Condolences to the family."

Patricia Carpenter wrote:  RIP Officer Kemp. Your watch is now over. Fly with the angels.
