TripAdvisor rates Byron Bay with top gong
BYRON Bay has proved its popularity again in the latest TripAdvisor travel awards.
The popular website ranks hospitality businesses based on a user-review system and has announced Byron Bay as the clear winner in its annual Certificate of Excellence Awards. Byron Bay scored recognition for 54 small businesses (including eateries and accommodation) placing it ahead of popular Sydney tourism destinations, Manly which scored 27, and Bondi which scored nine.
A Byron Bay accommodation business also took out the top gong for Certificate of Excellence 2014 as well as the TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice Award.
It is the second time the Cape Beach House Byron has won a Certificate of Excellence Award, with owners Katie and Marc Wilson also celebrating their Traveller's Choice Award that has previously been won by the Byron at Byron resort.
"We've been blessed with our guests' positive reviews," Mrs Wilson said.
"I would say 70-80% of people making enquiries have read our TripAdvisor reviews, so it really makes a difference."
The Wilsons have a long-time connection to Byron Bay with Katie's family having built one of Byron Bay's pioneering backpackers; the Backpackers Holiday Village on Jonson Street back in1983.
The family still operates the backpackers, while the Wilsons opened the Cape Beach House bed and breakfast near Clarks Beach in 2010.
"I really love my guests and I enjoy working with people, and I think that comes across with an owner-managed place," Mrs Wilson said.
"It's like I am welcoming friends into my own home."
To win the TripAdvisor award, businesses must maintain an overall rating of at least four out of five and are judged on the number of recent and positive reviews, as well as a business' tenure and popularity ranking, a TripAdvisor spokesperson said.
