Tug-of-war game ends in City win

CITY Smyths applied relentless pressure to win an arm wrestle of an A grade netball encounter at Grafton on Saturday.

Both teams were fairly evenly matched in the first quarter, with each team going goal-for-goal.

Each side was kept fit, running from end to end with the ball, resulting in an even score line of 10-all at the end of the first quarter.

At the start of the second quarter the ball went from end to end at a furious pace.

Some ball mishandling by City Smyths allowed GHS URB to gain control, leading by 2 with a half time score of 19-17.

During the third quarter, City’s Briony Edgar appeared to be everywhere, working to deflect the ball from GHS’s Helen King.

Despite this, King still managed to pluck the ball from the air to shoot for goal. Scores by end of third quarter were again level at 27-all.

As fourth quarter began, both teams worked hard against their opponents, knowing the outcome would go down to the wire.

City’s shooters Heidi Dalton and Leigh Predo were brilliant in the final quarter to guarantee a win for City.

Final score was City Smyths 39, GHS URB 34.
