Man spits on cops, attacks police car

A MAN has been arrested after assaulting police at Murwillumbah.

Police said that just after 7pm on Saturday, officers attended O'Connor Drive, Bray Park, after being alerted to the behaviour of a male and female at that location.

Police attempted to speak with both persons who were intoxicated.

Whilst police were speaking with the male, aged 21 from Tumbulgum, he allegedly spat on one of the officers before punching a window of the police vehicle and walking off.

The male was restrained by police after a short struggle in which he allegedly continued to spit towards the officers.

The male was placed into the rear of a police caged vehicle and conveyed to the Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with offensive conduct, assaulting police in the execution of their duty and resisting police.

As a result of the incident the man will appear at the Murwillumbah Local Court on April 26.
