Two die in horror car crash

THE Clarence Valley is mourning for two Grafton men killed when a car hit a tree in Grafton yesterday morning.

The driver Nathan Chapman, 20, and his passenger Kyle Clifford, 18, died after the car left the road and crashed.

At approximately 12.55am the Holden Barina driven by the P-plater was travelling west on Bacon Street when it is believed he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the tree.

The driver was ejected from the car, while his 18-year-old passenger was trapped inside the vehicle.

A number of nearby residents heard the crash and went to the scene, where they rendered aid to the two men before police arrived and began CPR.

NSW Ambulance paramedics, Fire Brigades officers and State Emergency Service volunteers also attended the crash and despite all efforts by emergency workers both men died at the scene. Police believe excessive speed and rain may have been contributing factors in the accident.

Yesterday, floral tributes surrounded the site where the young men lost their lives, and young people paraded the street to pay their respects.
