Two pig hunters to face Gatton court

TWO pig hunters will appear in Gatton Magistrates Court after an incident involving a 59-year-old woman at Rockmount in July.

Detectives from the Forest Hill Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squad (SARCIS) charged the two men and will allege they unlawfully entered the victim's property while pig hunting in the Rockmount area.

It is alleged a 34-year-old man assaulted the victim and stole her mobile phone.

The man has been charged with assault with intent to steal along with stealing and unlawfully entering farmland.

A second man has been charged with unlawfully entering farmland.

Police will allege the two men pursued their dogs into the victim's property and ditched a feral pig prior to leaving the property with their dogs.

SARCIS Detective Sergeant Troy Whittle said he believed these types of incidents often went unreported as many property owners thought there was little police could do about the problem.

"In many cases, if the offence is report to police and there is sufficient evident, the offenders will be charged," he said.
