Two taken to hospital after lightning strikes caravan park

TWO holidaymakers have been taken to hospital after a lightning bolt struck the ground at the Cotton Tree Holiday Park.

Witnesses said the drama unfolded during a severe thunderstorm which tore over the Maroochydore area about 8.20pm Sunday.

A Queensland Fire And Emergency spokeswoman said paramedics treated two male patients, one in his 70s and another in his 40s.

The man in his 70s experienced chest pain while the man in his 40s had no obvious injuries.

Both were taken to Nambour General Hospital in a stable condition.

The incident comes just says after Dicky Beach father Kenny Dixon was killed by a freak lightning strike at Inskip Point, just north of the Sunshine Coast.
