Tyrepower wins draw ‘by a nose'

WINNERS really are grinners. At least they were on Saturday night when Trevor and Rhonda Coleman won the Clarence River Jockey Club's Kensei Club draw.

The managers of Wykes Tyrepower Grafton were still grinning yesterday after winning, among other things, the naming rights to the Grafton Cup and other races in the July Racing Carnival.

The outcome means the main event of this year's carnival will be named the Wykes Tyrepower 2011 Grafton Cup – an honour highly sought by local businesses.

“We were very unbelieving on the night, but it's great,” Mr Coleman said.

“We're very pleased.”

Jockey club CEO Bradley de Martino Rosaroll said Wykes Tyrepower had been part of the community for almost as long as the Grafton Cup event itself, and the win was a great outcome.

It captured the spirit of the Kensei Club draw perfectly, Mr de Martino Rosaroll said.

“The reason we do this is because it gives Grafton businesses an opportunity to sponsor their cup, their home cup.”

The July Racing Carnival will run from July 7 to July 17 this year.
