Ultimate guide to the Brisbane Global Tens

MOVE over Sydney Sevens, it's time for the Brisbane Global Tens.

The 14-team, two-day tournament launches at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday as rugby stars from France (Toulon), Japan (Panasonic Wild Knights), South Africa (Bulls) and Samoa line up against all 10 Australian and New Zealand Super Rugby clubs.

Here's all you need to know about the inaugural Tens tournament.

WHY TENS?

New Zealand-based Duco Events, which also runs the Auckland Nines NRL tournament, has worked behind the scenes for several years to arrange a similar fan-friendly tournament in rugby.

As with the Nines, the Tens provides Super Rugby clubs with a high-profile pre-season hitout ahead of the competition kicking off on February 23.

Tens is a cross between the space and speed of sevens with the physicality, tactics and set-piece skills of traditional 15-man rugby.

WHEN IS IT ON?

The inaugural Tens will be held on February 11 and 12 (Saturday and Sunday).

Day one kicks off at noon (AEST), with the grand final set to kick off at 5.40pm on Sunday (AEST).

HOW CAN I WATCH?

Fox Sports has live and exclusive coverage of every game at the Brisbane Tens.

Day one coverage kicks off on Fox Sports 501HD at 1130pm (AEST) with day-two coverage starting at 9.30am (AEST) on the same channel.

You can also live stream the tournament on Fox Sports.

1) Ten players per team on field.

2) Eight substitutes, with unlimited interchanges.

3) Ten-minute halves. Five-minute half-time.

4) Knockout matches drawn after regulation are continued into extra time, in multiple five-minute periods.

5) All conversion attempts must be drop-kicked.

6) Conversions must be taken within 40 seconds of scoring a try.

7) Five-player scrums.

8) Scoring team kicks off.

9) Yellow cards mean a three-minute suspension.

10) Referees rule on advantage quickly (where one play usually ends advantage).
