'Under pressure': The big question for LNP and Labor

FLYNN's Federal Member says his Government and the Labor Party have one big question to ask themselves.

In the wake of outspoken right winger Cory Bernardi's split from the LNP last week, Ken O'Dowd said he's still surprised by the bold move.

Mr O'Dowd responded to Bernardi's claims his party was out of touch with Australian voters saying they were "under pressure".

"Labor has the same question to ask themselves - Why are the crossbencher groups growing and we're stable or going backwards?"

Coming into the second week of Parliament for the year today, Mr O'Dowd said they would be claiming every vote they get.

Mr O'Dowd is hopeful the move won't impact the LNP's upper hand in Government as their numbers drop to 29 in the Senate.

"It's a bold decision," Mr O'Dowd said.

"I'd feel cheated as a voter in South Australia."
