United together in last-gasp bid for NBL finals

MELBOURNE United could know as early as tomorrow night whether it will be playing in the NBL finals this season.

The team is fifth on the ladder (11-13) and would most likely have to win its four remaining games to replace either third-placed Perth (15-10) or the Adelaide 36ers (14-11) in the final four.

The first test will come tonight against top side Cairns (19-7) in north Queensland, with a loss in that game making tomorrow night's clash against the Crocs in Townsville the final roll of the dice.

Melbourne did its chances of making the finals no good by losing to bottom side Wollongong last weekend.

Captain Mark Worthington (pictured) said while that effort was disgraceful, "until we are told we are not a chance to make finals we have to put our best foot forward".

Cairns will be without guard Corey Maynard who has a broken thumb.
