Urquhart looking good

IT is a case of a new year but the same results for Yamba’s world-class squash star Donna Urquhart.

A breakthrough year on the European circuit saw Urquhart’s ranking climb to a career-high 22.

And the signs are looking good for another successful 12 months after the 23-year-old recorded a comfortable victory in the opening round of the Chairman’s Cup squash tournament in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

Urquhart easily dispatched Japanese opponent Misaki Kobayashi in four games 11-7, 8-11, 12-10, 11-5.

It was a rusty start for the rising star but she could be excused for not being in peak condition after spending her Christmas holidays relaxing on the North Coast beaches.

Urquhart plays sixth seed Lauren Siddall in the quarter-finals.
