Urquhart wins to qualify for main draw in the US Open

Yamba's Donna Urquhart continued her recent good form when she cruised past Canada's Samantha Cornett in straight games to reach the main draw of the US Open in Philadelphia on Sunday.

Urquhart was in devastating touch as she accounted for Cornett 11-4, 11-7, 11-3 to join fellow Australians Kasey Brown and Rachael Grinham in the first round.

All three Australians face tough challenges in the main draw.

Urquhart takes on fifth seeded Irishwoman Madeline Perry, Brown faces sixth seed Annie Au of Hong Kong and Grinham is up against third ranked Englishwoman Jenny Duncalf.

Meanwhile, Cameron Pilley meets eighth seeded Egyptian Mohamed El Shorbagy in his second round clash on Monday.
