Valley clear for take off

DESPITE recent claims by business entrepreneur and former pilot Dick Smith about the safety of regional airports, the Clarence Valley Council has assured the safety of Grafton Regional Airport.

Mr Smith has been wary of airports lacking direct air traffic controllers.

Clarence Valley Council works and civil director Troy Anderson said Mr Smith's concerns about air traffic controllers should not concern users of the Grafton airport.

"Although the number of passengers using Grafton seems to be growing," he said. "We're a long way from needing air traffic control so his concerns don't relate to here at all."
