Valley set for wheely fun time

FANS of the fast-paced sports variety will have no excuses for a lazy weekend on the couch with two biking events to be held in the Clarence Valley.

At Abbott St, South Grafton today BMX Australia will hold a Come and Try sign-on day from 10am-12pm.

Riders of all ages are invited to attend the event, with the sport made popular by its introduction into the Beijing Olympics and the profile of flamboyant stars like Kamakazi.

Those interested are asked to wear long-sleeved shirts and pants and bring their bikes as well as safety gear.

BMX Australia president Barry Knight is hoping to cash in on his already booming sport’s popularity.

“We are trying to attract new riders all over Australia and this was the perfect time to promote the sport,” he said.

In a double dose for racing fans on Sunday the Maclean Dirt Bike Club will host round 1 of its Club Championship.

Riders from 4-35 will be on display all day with two demonstration classes.

The senior’s social class will be running all year for those social competitors who enjoy having a ride rather than racing.

Gates open at 9am with the action to start at 10am. For further information on the BMX sign-on day contact Susan on 0422 414198 or go to http://clarencevalley.bmxnsw.com.au. For the dirt bikes contact 0402 203 482 or go to www.macleandirtbikeclub.com.au.
