VIDEO: Pacific Highway shootout caught by police chopper

NEW police footage has shown two shirtless men allegedly terrorising motorists with guns in the culmination of a dramatic high-speed chase on the Pacific Highway near the NSW-Queensland border last Thursday.

Aerial video footage shows the two men allegedly shooting at officers and passing vehicles after police stopped their car with spikes at Tweed Heads following a dramatic 154-kilometre chase from Caboolture, north of Brisbane.

The minute-long video shows two men jumping out of a blue Mitsubishi Lancer near the Tugun Tunnel and leaping directly onto oncoming traffic on the motorway.

One of the two men, a 32-year-old, allegedly shot at an officer before firing a number of shots at moving vehicles.

During the shootout, a red car appeared to have stopped and another vehicle ran into its rear causing luggage from the red car to be strewn across the motorway.
