Vikings on the charge for first clash at home
BASKETBALL: It has been a long time for hoops fans in the Clarence Valley, but the wait is finally over.
The Grafton Vikings are set to bring regular court action back to "The Cage” starting with tonight's first home clash of the Sunshine Conference against the Byron Bay Beez.
Coach Rob Blinman said the team have been working hard in preparation for the game.
"We've just tried to execute a little bit better, just to make things a little more smother and crisper on the offence,” he said.
Blinman said while they will miss captain Dan Boorman's calming influence on court tonight, it isn't the end of their chance at a win.
"I've got every confidence the boys taking the spot will step up and fill that role, it will be good for their game to take on that bit more responsibility,” he said.
"Nathan Martin will be back this weekend...he's quite experienced, he will fill that void a fair bit as well.”
Byron defeated Grafton in the final of a pre-season competition recently, and Blinman is unsure just yet how he will counter the strong Beez side.
"Byron are going to have a few away as well, their coaching, I'm not 100% sure who they are going to have turning up,” he said. "It will influence me on the night.”
"We've just got to play for ourselves and not get caught up in what they are trying to do, if we can do that, we will be in the fight and very competitive.”
