Voice was music to the ears of eligible bachelor

WE'VE all heard of love at first sight. What about love at first listen?

When the call went out from SeaFM in August 2014 for ladies to phone in and chat with Kurt Southam to see if they clicked, Kristy Eriksson gave it a whirl.

After all, why should a bachelorette just make do with popular dating app Tinder, which relies on facial photos to showcase possible partners, when she could phone in and hear the voice of an eligible bachelor?

"I was driving to work when they (SeaFM presenters Jess and BarRat) said 'we're going to do a radio Tinder and any single lady who likes the sound of Kurt can phone in. He'll either say yes or no and go on to the next lady'.

"I just happened to be the first one and he said, 'yeah, I like this one' and didn't bother talking to the other two women who were on hold.

"We went on a blind date to the Creek Tavern and pretty much went on a date every single day after that."

Three months later, at The Peninsula apartments in Mooloolaba, Kurt popped the question of marriage.

"I didn't think he was serious so I told him I'd only say yes if he did it naked on the tennis court," Kristy said.

"He said he would if I was naked out there too, so we walked out, dropped our towels and he got down on one knee and proposed.

"By the time I said yes, everyone in the units were out on their balconies applauding us and cheering. We had an audience and we were still naked."

The surprises didn't end there.

"We decided to elope, so we got married at Twin Waters on Valentine's Day this year and didn't tell anyone," the new Mrs Southam said.

They needed to have two witnesses and, appropriately, they were SeaFM's Jess and BarRat.
