VW will release the Touareg V8 TDI R-Line in March.

OUR love of performance cars has prompted Volkswagen to introduce a plush Touareg SUV with a V8 turbo diesel and plenty of sporting bling.

To be launched in March, the Touareg V8 TDI R-Line will be able to rip from standstill to 100kmh in 5.8 seconds.

No prices are available, but expect it to be well above the current $83,990 V6 TDI flagship.

The R-Line Design includes a full body kit to provide a lowered standard, oval tailpipes, 21-inch alloys and a range of groovy athletic interior finishes.

Its 4.2-litre V8 turbo diesel generates 250kW at 4000rpm and 800Nm, with average fuel consumption of 9.2 litres for every 100km.

Standard specification will include Nappa leather upholstery, Optical Parking System, front and rear parking distance sensors, satellite navigation system, Dynaudio Confidence 620W stereo, four-zone automatic climate control dual-air conditioning system and keyless entry.

Safety will incorporate Adaptive Cruise Control with City Emergency brake function, lane change warning system, nine airbags, stability control and Off-road Function with anti-lock brakes and Hill Decent Assist.
