WARNING: Children's toy recalled

PRODUCT Safety Australia has issued an urgent recall on a Finding Dory children's toy sold nationally in Big W.

The toy, called Find Dory Under the Sea Light Up Treasure Chest, is a card storage box with drawer and light up feature in lid and comes with decorating stickers and markers and poses a choking hazard from its button batteries.

The battery compartment lid on the toy may not be securely fastened, which could expose the button batteries, and if young children gain access and swallow the batteries they may choke or suffer internal burn injuries, which could be fatal.

Product Recall Australia advises anyone with the defective toy to stop using it immediately and contact Big W for a full refund.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said an average of five children a week have to be rushed to emergency departments across the country with an injury related to button batteries, and are common in many household products.

ACCC deputy chair Delia Rickard said they can cause serious harm, and parents should be aware to keep any devices using button batteries out of reach of young children.
