McGoldrick sounds strong warning ahead of Magpies trial
RUGBY LEAGUE: Lower Clarence Magpies captain/coach Ryan McGoldrick has sounded a strong warning to his playing group ahead of their first trial match today against Northern United and Woolgoolga.
According to McGoldrick if the players are not willing to turn up the pin will be pulled on the Lower side's season.
"The first time that people don't turn up to training and I don't take a side that will be it for the year," he said.
"If you can't field a side for a week I don't think you deserve to be in the competition."
"Instead we will put our efforts into finding a way for the club to move forward and return bigger and better next year."
The newcomer to the Magpies decided it was about time to make a firm stand after player involvement dropped off late in pre-season.
"The hardest bit for me, I have got blokes who I can bring in," McGoldrick said. "But I am not going to bring them in before I have a solid local side around them."
McGoldrick has pinpointed Magpies half Jason James as a potential person to fill a player recruitment/community role for the club in the future to assist the coach.
