WATCH: One dead as crane collapses in New York

A MAN has been killed and three others injured after a crane has collapsed in lower Manhattan, reports NBC New York.

The 38-year-old man killed, David Wichs, had been sitting in his car at the time of the accident.

More than 140 firefighters and dozens of emergency services workers attended the downed crane.

The crane was being secured and lowered after strong gusts of wind were recorded nearby.

It crashed into several buildings before smashing into a number of parked cars below.
