AN EXHAUSTED member for Page Janelle Saffin, who last night backed Kevin Rudd's return to the prime ministership, said after the vote that the Labor Party could now win the next federal election.

"The feeling within caucus now is that we are going out now as a united team to take the campaign up to Tony Abbott," she said.

"I've always said in my seat I am absolutely competitive, and having Kevin Rudd is the best thing for the nation and the federal parliamentary Labor Party."

Mr Rudd won the leadership with 57 votes to Julia Gillard's 45.

Asked if she expected a senior role in a Rudd Government, Ms Saffin said she didn't think "beyond being the member for Page".
