We had a ball, thanks

ON BEHALF of the 2013 Relay For Life Committee I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone in the Lower Clarence community who supported our charity ball on Saturday April 6.

The function was a huge success and we raised around $11,500 toward the Cancer Council's research, prevention, education, and support services.

I would particularly like to thank the management and staff of the Yamba Bowling and Recreation Club. The assistance and services that you provided to us in the lead-up to and on the night of the function were exceptional.

We are extremely grateful for the support of our major sponsors for the charity ball: Yamba Bowling and Recreation Club, radio station 2GF, Yamba Skin Clinic and Regional Express airline.

A huge thank you is extended to all the local businesses, community organisations, and individuals who so kindly donated funds and equipment, promotion and advertising and prizes for the fundraising auctions that were conducted on the night.

Many thanks go to members of the local community who supported our major raffle and who donned their masks and finery to come along and support the fundraising activities on the night.

The response was overwhelming for a population that is dealing with the many pressures on our local community.   Representatives from the Cancer Council NSW Northern Region deserve a special mention for the never-ending support and guidance they provided to our committee in the lead up to the charity ball.

Finally, and by no means least, I would like to extend a huge thank you to the small but dynamic group of people who are the 2013 Relay For Life committee. Without your time and dedication community events to raise the awareness of the fight against cancer would not be possible.

Relay For Life events in our area are not just about the Yamba community. They extend to everyone in the towns and communities of the Lower Clarence.

As chair of the 2013 Relay For Life committee, I would like to extend an invitation to people from surrounding towns and communities to join the committee so that we can look at ways to spread these events more broadly across the Lower Clarence area.

If you are interested in joining, please contact Abby Wallace, Cancer Council NSW Northern Region on 02 6627 1300 or abbyw @nswcc.org.au or Gayle Doe, secretary on 0417 002 682 or email gayledoe@gmail.com.
