Welfare payments to rise slightly

WELFARE recipients will receive a modest increase to their government benefits from September 20.

Single people receiving a maximum rate pension will pocket an extra $8.55 per week, while couples will get an additional $12.90.

The new fortnightly pay will be $772.60 for singles and $1164.80 for couples.

People who receive Newstart and the Parenting Payment also will receive an increase on September 20.

While the Parenting Payment will increase by $7.60 per week for singles, the Newstart Allowance, Widow Allowance, Partner Allowance and Sickness Allowance will increase by just $1.45 per week for singles and $1.35 each per week for couples.
