Westlawn top order fails to fire in 26-run loss

WESTLAWN v TUCABIA: Tucabia-Copmanhurst express bowler Chris Adamson said last week for his side to take the spoils against Westlawn they would need to strike early when play resumed on Saturday.

But even the local veteran could not have predicted how true his statement would prove after he removed Westlawn opener Brad Inmon without addition to the overnight score at McKittrick Park.

It was a sign of things to come as a red-hot Tucabia attack, led by the in-form Adamson and captain Brad Chard, bowled their side to an unlikely 26-run victory.

After snaring the initial breakthrough the paceman went on a tear, removing opener Simon Wilson (17) and captain Jason Rainbow (8) as Westlawn lost 3-12 after battling their way to 46 without loss on the opening day of the clash.

After a miserly spell from quick Tyson Blackadder (0 for 3 off 5) built pressure on the batting side, Scott Lloyd (2-21-8) and Brad Chard (3-43-21) got in on the act with Kallen Lawrence, Rohan Hackett and Aidan Cahill all gone without the score ticking over from 83.

It was another case of the Westlawn top order failing to fire, a common theme this season which is now done and dusted for the side after the loss dashed any remaining hopes they had of playing in the Premier League finals.

It was not for a lack of trying from the lower order though with former captain Pat Vidler top scoring with 37 and building a 36-run eighth-wicket stand with young Ethan Cahill.

It was however all academic as Tucabia spin duo Billy Blanch (1-24-8) and Andrew Buchanan (1-3-2) combined to wrap up the tail and the victory.
