Whitlam to be honoured in memorial service

GOUGH Whitlam's memory and achievements will be honoured with a state memorial service in Sydney in two weeks.

The service will be held at the Sydney Town Hall at 11am on Wednesday, November 5.

A statement from Prime Minister Tony Abbott's office said it would honour his "lifetime of service to our country" including time served in the air force, and his roles as a parliamentarian, prime minister and an ambassador.

There is also a condolence book available for the public to sign in Parliament House, during business hours, until November 5.

People who want to attend the service should phone 1800 146 713 between 7am and 7pm from this Saturday until Friday next week, or email: whitlammemorialservice@pmc.gov.au
