Winching exercise success
THE Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter held a winch-training exercise this week, in the Clarence River near the Goodwood Island Wharf.
The exercise involved personnel from the chopper service, Port of Yamba, local Marine Rescue, Fire and Rescue, Surf Lifesaving, SES and other agencies.
A long line fishing vessel was used in a practical shipboard fire and critical incident response scenario, co-ordinating medical teams on board with the helicopter hovering above.
Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter chief crewman Roger Fry said the exercise was a success.
"Local medical teams, our pilots and our crew rarely get the opportunity to perform an exercise like this on a vessel of such size.
"We thank the Yamba Harbour Master and local emergency services for helping us to achieve the learning outcomes that came from the exercise."
