Winless Redmen missing key trio
THE winless Grafton Redmen will have to begin their ascent up the Far North Coast Rugby Union First Grade ladder missing key players with Easter commitments.
Star players Kyle Hancock and Johnny Morgan have already been ruled out of today’s home clash with Wollongbar-Alstonville, while Dwayne Duke will race against the clock to return in time for kick-off.
The absence of the trio will at least be eased by the return of Chris Adamson and Scott Lloyd.
“They fill a bit of a hole,” Redmen coach Brad Lloyd said.
“We will have to bring a couple of blokes in from the other grades.
“It hasn’t been helping. We are improving but it has been hard with a lack of combinations,” he said.
Grafton has lost its opening three clashes by a combined total of 20 points and Lloyd is confident his troops can turn the trend around soon.
Brett Graham, who made a successful shift from scrumhalf to fly-half last week, is likely to return to the number nine jumper against the Pioneers.
“We have got to start beating these sorts of teams,” Lloyd said.
“Luckily there are three rounds, so we have time to catch up a bit, but we don’t want to leave ourselves too much to do.
“We should have beaten Casino, and probably University. The boys know we have the ability there to do it.
“We can match these sides will skill and fitness. We just can’t get the ball over the line.”
The Redmen have a round-five bye, before a home clash against Lennox Head on May 7.
Today’s action starts at Rugby Park at 1.50pm.
