Winx on track ahead of return run

RACING: Trainer Chris Waller has described champion mare Winx's preparation as faultless going into her comeback in the Group 2 $250,000 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Winx had her final track gallop ahead of her return at Rosehill Gardens this morning and with regular race rider Hugh Bowman in the saddle, she worked over 1000m, brushing home her final 400m in about 25s.

Sydney's super mare looks a picture of health and although obviously short of race fitness, she seems set to extend her 13-race winning streak.

"I think she is going as well as ever,'' Waller said of Winx.

"She is fully matured now and the good thing is her preparation has been faultless going into the Apollo Stakes.

"There is always a bit of nerves when Winx starts her race campaign but she makes us look good.''

Winx has firmed into $1.12 favouritism with TAB Fixed Odds for the Apollo Stakes. She will face 11 rivals in the weight-for-age event following the withdrawal of Savvy Nature and Global Glamour.
