Woman caught driving double speed limit on Bruce Hwy

AFTER a horror start to the year on Mackay region roads, police have caught a woman driving almost double the speed limit through a country town.

Mackay police Senior Constable Steve Smith said a 48-year-old Rockhampton woman was recorded travelling 111kmh on the Bruce Highway in Koumala at 10.50am on Sunday - 51kmh above the 60kmh limit.

The driver copped a $1137 fine and was disqualified from driving for six months.

Although, Sen Const Smith said the consequences could have been much worse for the Rockhampton woman.

"This pales in significance if a crash were to have occurred while travelling at this speed," he said.

"For the benefit of yourself, your passengers and all other road users, please abide by the speed limits."

Since January 1, three drivers have died on roads in the Mackay region.
