Woman in critical condition after stabbing

A woman is in a critical condition following a stabbing in Grafton overnight.

About 11.40pm yesterday, a taxi driver travelling along Villiers Street was waved down by a 42-year-old woman standing with a man.

The woman spoke to the taxi driver and asked for help, saying she had been stabbed.

At this time, the man allegedly fled the scene.

The taxi driver took the woman to Grafton Base Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery for stab wounds to the stomach, upper chest area and neck.

Police were called to the scene of the incident and established a crime scene.

About 2.50am, the 55-year-old man returned to the Villiers Street home and police arrested him.

He was taken to Grafton Police Station where he was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, to appear at court at a later date.

Police investigations continue and they believe the incident is domestic related.
