Woman throws baby and toddler from window to escape fire
A WOMAN trapped in a burning apartment in Sydney's south-west overnight was forced to throw her two-day-old baby and two-year-old toddler out of a second-storey window to save them.
The 27-year-old woman broke the window and threw the children out to a man walking past the Lakemba unit block before firefighters arrived.
The blaze started in the kitchen of a second-storey unit on Wangee Road about 9:30pm yesterday and spread to surrounding units in the building.
A firefighter at the scene later said when crews arrived they found the woman sitting on the window sill.
"On arrival crews found the second-floor unit was well engulfed in fire; they also located a lady, who was sitting on the edge of the window sill," he said.
