Working with Mrs Butt was so good

WHAT was your first job?

Working for Mrs Butt in Butts Drapery (where the Big Top is) at Maroochydore.

What lesson did you learn that you keep with you today?

If you have problems, take time to talk to your boss, as they may be able to help you. Sadly a co-worker was found stealing money from other staff's purses, and she only needed to talk to Mrs Butt and she could have gained more hours to help with her money problems.

What did you buy with your first pay?

I was saving money to take a holiday in Tasmania, so my money was spent on my holiday.

How long did the job last?

Summer school holidays

What hours did you work?

Boy, this is testing the memory. I think it was 8.30am to 5pm on weekdays and 8.30am until 12.30pm on a Saturday. It was only half-day trading on Saturdays.

Which of your friends had the best job?

Actually I think it was me, as my friends worked for Mr Butt in the supermarket (and you worked very hard there).

What was your uniform?

Smart casual summer dresses. There was not a uniform.

Best part of your job? Worst part of your job?

Best - working with nice things and working for Mrs Butt (she was a lovely lady). Worst - I can't remember that there was any worst.

What were your duties?

Helping women select clothes to try on, putting these away and backing up the fabric department.

How much were you paid per hour?

I can't remember, it was a long time ago. But I know I was very happy working there, so money wasn't the big drawcard.
