Would a national award get your weightloss efforts started?

WEIGHT Watchers has opened entries for the 2014 Healthy Life Awards, a nationwide search to identify and award Australia's best weight loss stories.

Now in its 14th year, the annual Healthy life Awards recognise men and women who've made healthy changes to their lives, and features five awards: Slimmer of the Year, Family of the Year, Workplace of the Year, Health Improvement Award and for the first time, the Inspirational Journeys Award.

The brand new category of Inspirational Journeys Award is the first time that entry to the Healthy Life Awards has been open to the general public and is in recognition of how difficult the first steps to weight loss and healthy life changes can be.

A national study conducted by Weight Watchers revealed that a large number of Australians are putting off their weight loss journeys due to laziness (44 per cent), lack of will power (36 per cent) and not having the time (28 per cent).

Findings from the nationwide study also reveal that two in five Australians admit that getting started is the hardest part of losing weight, with 39 per cent rating this more difficult than sticking to the challenge.

Anita Jurd, 2013 Healthy Life Awards Slimmer of the Year said: "By far, the hardest part of my weight loss journey was finding the courage to admit I needed help and the motivation to actually do something about it.

"The Inspirational Journeys Award is a fantastic opportunity for anyone to get started on their weight loss journey, and find the support and motivation they need to feel incredible about themselves."

More than just a weight loss competition, the Healthy Life Awards also celebrates the achievements of men and women in key areas of lifestyle change, health improvement, weight loss, maintenance and transformation.

All contenders can enter at www.healthylifeawards.com.au with HLA entries open from now until the 18th of August 2014.
