A PLAN to keep XPT trains out of Brisbane during morning peak hour will have an impact on Clarence Valley travellers.
From October 21 the XPT trip from Grafton to Brisbane which arrives at Roma St Station at 6.30am will arrive at 3.53am.
Travellers to Sydney will also have to make changes to their plans with the train that now leaves at 6.30am moving to a 5.15am timeslot. The changes have come as the NSW and Queensland governments open up train paths for Gold Coast commuters.
Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said the changes for the Sydney-to-Brisbane XPT services meant less congestion on the line used for Gold Coast services.
"The interstate service currently requires two paths on the Gold Coast line between Roma Street and Salisbury - departing Roma Street at 6.30am and a second path at 7.30am during summer," he said.
"As a result of negotiations we will see the gradual removal of the XPT service from the morning peak period, allowing additional capacity for Queensland Rail to provide additional Gold Coast capacity.
"More than 9000 passengers a day catch trains on the Gold Coast and Beenleigh lines in the morning peak."
From October 21 the XPT will be removed from morning peak times, arriving at Roma St station at 3.53am and departing at 4.55am. Commentators on social media have had mixed reactions.
"I have a daughter that visits home regularly from Brisbane. This new timetable will be pretty awful for us I suppose we'll just have to deal with it, though. No one asks us beforehand anyway," Facebook poster Renée Amici said. But others said the few Valley train users would have to wear the inconvenience because of benefits to far more travellers on the Gold Coast.
