Yamba mourns community stalwart

WELL-KNOWN Yamba businessman and rugby union fan Mike Macqueen died on Thursday night from a suspected heart attack.

It is understood Mr Macqueen had a stent inserted into his heart just a few months ago.

Friend and fellow real estate agent Mike Harvey described Mr Macqueen as 'a mate' and 'a determined businessman'.

"We were both bushies and used to sit down and have good yarns about the bush," Mr Harvey said.

"He was tough in business and built a very good business from scratch."

Past president of Yamba Buccaneers Peter Campbell used to play rugby union with Mr Macqueen in the late 1980s.

He said Mr Macqueen virtually ran the club single-handedly when he was president in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

"He continued to be a supporter of the club and a close friend to many - he will be sorely missed," Mr Campbell said.
