Yamba Rd cycleway gets council cash injection
THE council has decided to spend $75,000 replacing the cycleway on Yamba Rd, despite Mayor Richie Williamson's misgivings.
Cr Williamson said the project was too expensive and characterised it as the kind of thing the council could only undertake "if the streets were paved with gold".
But his fellow councillors would not be discouraged.
Cr Karen Toms questioned his misgivings.
"Why are you choosing an option which only satisfies the people who live on the street and not the 600 people who signed a petition?" she asked the Mayor.
In the end Cr Williamson's option was defeated.
