Yamba roundabout to go ahead as planned

THERE will be no changes to a roundabout under construction in Yamba after a meeting of interested parties on Friday.

Clarence Valley Council has begun work on the roundabout on the intersection of Coldstream and Yamba Sts.

The no-change news is a relief for Mary Drum, the lessee of the Caperberry Cafe on the corner of the two streets.

"The work has been happening for two months and its affecting my business," she said.

"It's going to be disrupting things for another month at least, so there's no way we wanted more changes."

Ms Drum said council employees inspected the site last week.

"We were told someone had made a submission to council to change the design," she said.

"There was a meeting on Friday with the council's planners to discuss the issue."

Ms Drum said people should not be able to go to council to ask for changes after the plans had been finalised.

"There's a process everyone has to follow," she said. "You get a chance to have your say, but once it's started someone shouldn't be able to make changes."

A council spokesman confirmed the meeting occurred on Friday, but did not comment on the outcome other than to say construction of the roundabout would continue as planned.
