No bail for man in stabbing case

A MAN accused of stabbing his ex-wife in Yamba was refused bail in Grafton Local Court yesterday

Anthony John Russell, 54, of Tullymorgan, is charged with attempted murder and causing wounding/grievous bodily harm with intent to murder over the Sunday, August 14 incident.

Police were called to the scene about 12.30pm and found the alleged victim with stab wounds to her throat, chest and arms.

It is understood Russell sat in a car at the rear of the property for hours as police attempted to negotiate his surrender.

Police said at the time that Russell had threatened to kill himself and about 6.30pm police managed to taser him and arrest him.

The case was adjourned to October 10 for mention.
