Yeehaw, Texas tucker goes down a treat on MKR

COWBOY Robert Murphy and his daughter Lynzey roped themselves into pole position on My Kitchen Rules tonight.

The Blue Mountains duo are now sitting comfortably at the top of the leaderboard as the first round of instant restaurants continue on Sunday.

The father-daughter pairing learned from the mistakes of the previous two teams, buying extra food in case of any mistakes and tasting all of the food before they served it.

Their attention to detail paid off, with them earning the first perfect scores of the season.

They also managed to stay cool, calm and collected throughout their three-course, Texas themed menu.

Their instant restaurant "Tejas" featured cowboy boots, hay bales and even a pair of Robert's old rodeo chaps.

While Jac and Shaz's surprise inclusion of blue cheese in their dessert backfired on Monday, Robert and Lynzey's surprise addition of jalapenos poppers to their first course went down a treat with judges Manu Feildel and Pete Evans.

And Lynzey needn't have worried about their entrée resembling bar food.

"We've never had Texan food before and I'm very happy with it," Manu said.

"My first bite was just really enjoyable. That combination of chili, cream cheese and ham is strange but it works and the sauce, it's bloody good too."

It seems the other teams and viewers can't get enough of Robert's long Texas drawl, with #TeamTex shooting up the Twitter trends list.
 


But the schoolteacher didn't deliver on his promise of Texas-style beef so rare you simply need to "wipe its rear and send it over here".

After overcooking their beef tenderloin, Robert and Lynzey slightly overcooked their two backup pieces of meat as well.

"I asked you in the kitchen what am I going to expect on the plate and you said rare. Mine was bordering on medium rare to medium… it would have been better if I had rare," Pete said.

"You haven't tried to impress us with fancy techniques or dishes that you don't know how to cook. What I see on this plate is confident cooking and that's what we love because that's when we get deliciousness on the plate."

The final course divided the judges. While Manu thought it was too sweet, Pete and most of the teams loved it.

Even bread pudding hater Shaz was converted by the bourbon-soaked version.

 "I think you've pretty well hit the nail on the head," Pete said.

"And that bourbon sauce, I don't drink alcohol but that was bloody good. Your vanilla bean ice cream was spot-on; I got three delicious dishes tonight."

Robert and Lynzey are now the team to beat after earning two perfect scores from the judges.

Posh Melbourne socialites Ash and Camilla will cook on Sunday at 8pm.

Main: Peppered beef with Texas green beans and BBQ corn with garlic butter

Dessert: Bourbon bread pudding with vanilla bean ice cream
