Young gun Sam a prodigy on the hockey field

FEW could argue with Sam Young's credentials for being judged the August winner of Jetts Fitness Junior Sportsperson of the Month.

The eldest of a triumvirate of champion hockey siblings, Sam represented New South Wales at the Schools Sports Australia Under-16 Boys Hockey Championships in Perth last month and returned home as a member of the Australian All-Schools Under-16 national team.

Earlier this year he was also the youngest member of the Grafton open mens team to compete in Division One of NSW Championships alongside the likes of Brett Livermore.

His boost in confidence has been attributed to the resurgence of Royals, who play Barbs Hagars in the preliminary final of the local A Grade Mens competition this Sunday.

Sam will join Zac and sister Grace for Royals in the Under-16 grand final against Bears this Saturday at 4.05pm.

Sam is now in contention to be named Jetts Fitness Junior Male Sportsperson of the Year at the Clarence Valley Sports Awards at Maclean Services Club on Friday, November 13.
