Young guns have Harwood firing heading into finals
HARWOOD v TUCABIA: Harwood continue to ride the momentum of their dominant 2016 season into the finals following a 226-run thumping of Tucabia Copmanhurst.
After scoring a tough 378 last week off the back of a Doug Harris century, Harwood could have been forgiven for becoming complacent as they prepared to take the field on Saturday.
But captain Nathan Ensbey said complacency was what they had been determined to avoid as they put the pressure on the Tucabia top order.
"We talked about not being complacent before we went into the field," Ensbey said.
"We didn't try too many new things either, we just tried to stay true to our formula.
"And I think the boys did a great job to get Tucabia out for 150 on a flat track."
Who will win the 2015/16 GDSC Premier League title?
This poll ended on 19 March 2016.
This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.
With Nathan Essex absent, the responsibility fell on Harwood's young bowlers Hayden McMahon, Lachlan Johnson and Harrison Nicholson to complete the majority of the overs and they did so with great success.
"I think the boys bowled really well," Ensbey said.
"Benny McMahon and especially Lachie Johnson bowled really well.
"Lachie caught the edge a few times with a couple of catches in the slips. It is probably the best spell of bowling he has had this season.
"Benny also backed that up and probably bowled one of his better spells of the year as well.
"It seems like our batting and bowling are really coming together at the right end of the season."
Ensbey said despite having lost just one match all season, Harwood will need to refocus for the finals series.
"The boys know we have a tough finals series coming up and that all begins with our match against Brothers in two weeks," Ensbey said.
"While we have played well all season this is a different ball game."
