Young Roar star gets player of year nomination

FOOTBALL: Brisbane Roar striker Brandon Borello has been rewarded for a stellar month by winning the NAB Young Footballer of the Year nomination for January.

It is the third time the 21-year-old has received a nomination for the prestigious award after also getting the nomination in March 2015 and October 2015.

Borrello becomes the fourth player to get a nomination this season following on from Sydney FC duo Brandon O'Neill (October) and Josh Brillante (November), and Western Sydney Wanderers FC defender Jonathan Aspropotamitis (December).

The youngster made a short appearance in the Roar's first game of the year against Newcastle but then played every minute of the next three matches.

Borrello also scored a vital goal in the win over Western Sydney Wanderers.

"It's been a great month for me and the team and it's an honour to be nominated for the NAB Young Footballer of the Year for the third time," he said.

"I've been working hard on consistently performing at a high level and now I want continue to help the team be successful this season."

Each month representatives from the FFA Technical department vote on a 3-2-1 basis for the most outstanding U-23 players in the A-League during that period.
